Accessibility

A clearer path should be available to more people.

North Star Theory aims to make its research, guides and decision tools understandable and usable across different devices and ways of navigating.

NST works toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This is an ongoing standard for the website, not a claim that every possible barrier has already been found or removed.

Keyboard access

Core navigation and interactive controls are designed to work without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator and a skip link to the main content.

Readable structure

Pages use headings, landmarks, labels and descriptive links so the order and purpose of content are available beyond its visual layout.

Responsive presentation

Layouts are designed to reflow across smaller screens and enlarged text without requiring a separate mobile version.

Motion and colour contrast

The design respects reduced-motion preferences. Main text measures at least 13.93:1 and secondary text at least 4.58:1 against the page, card and muted-panel backgrounds, above the 4.5:1 ratio that WCAG 2.2 Level AA sets for normal text. See the known limitations below.

Known limitations

What has not been fixed or checked.

  • The contrast figures above come from the site's colour tokens. They do not cover every colour combination on every page, such as text placed over images.
  • The muted secondary text colour measures 4.29:1 on the pale gold panel background, below the 4.5:1 ratio for normal text. The product assessment panel, the one place that pairing was used, now uses the main text colour instead. New panels on that background must do the same.
  • No independent accessibility audit is recorded for this website.
